It’s a golden moment as Jeff celebrates 50 years’ service

12 Mar 2019

Jeff Scott, Project Manager at Dearnleys, recently celebrated 50 years of continuous service at the Yorkshire based business. Dearnleys, based in Wrenthorpe, near Wakefield, has itself been in the solar shading industry for almost 90 years. Jeff told Openings: “I started work at Dearnleys straight from school. I didn’t expect to spend the whole of my working life here, but you can take that as an indication of just how much I enjoy working at the company, the job itself and all the great people. “I also spent a fair bit of time across the Pennines at our sister company in Manchester, Pentel Contracts. It’s been a very wide and varied past 50 years, that’s for sure!” Dearnleys and Pentel Contracts manufacture and install a wide range of proprietary and own-branded blinds and solar shading products in the commercial, health and education sectors. The companies’ reputations for quality and service are something close to Jeff’s heart. “Having learned the trade as a teenager, when attention to detail was really drilled into me, I think that this level of professionalism is what makes us stand out from our competition. “I have been privileged to work on some very high profile and prestigious jobs over the years, including Pinderfields and the Royal Stoke hospitals. It is also pleasing when a customer takes the time to send a personal ‘thank you’ note on a job well done - I’m proud to say I have a few of those in my desk drawer!” Jeff is pictured (right) with Kevin Hill, Managing Director of holding company D&P group. Kevin said: “In all my experience in a number of businesses and different sectors, it is the first time I have had the pleasure of celebrating a 50-year work
anniversary. “Jeff is a real example to us all, given his work ethic, attention to detail and simple joie de vivre. In addition, he is far healthier than most 20-year-olds and still plays football to a high standard!” Jeff - who has no plans to retire - was presented with a holiday voucher and spent a restful two weeks on the Greek island of Kos with his wife Colleen.
