Child Safety - Expert Advice from Dearnleys

15 May 2013

Here at Dearnleys we adhere to the current requirements of EN 13120 regarding child safety with blinds operated by cords and chains. These operation methods can pose a hazard to young children so we always offer inherently child safe alternatives of all our blinds and solar shading products. We also offer safety devices designed to either keep cords and chains under constant tension or to break a loop under undue loads.

A revised standard is currently being reviewed by EU member states and we will ensure all our products are fully compliant when this revised standard is published.

Although there has not been a reported child fatality due to window blinds and cords outside of domestic properties any building where a child under the age of 42 months may live or visit will be covered by the new regulations. Our trade association, the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) are leading the development of the standard and have produced some excellent resources. You can see more here

Dearnleys also offer a full range of anti-ligature window blinds, curtain and cubicle tracks for areas where vulnerable people may be present.
