671 new ventilation blinds at two new schools

31 Jan 2017

Dearnleys recently installed 671 number blinds to two of the largest new schools in Humberside – Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College and Withernsea High School.

Both schools were designed with opening windows and air handling units at the window area to use natural ventilation to improve indoor air quality. Natural ventilation in schools is covered by the government’s Building Bulletin 101.

To cope with the disturbance caused by air movement Dearnleys used the new Astralux ventilation roller blind. This clever blind system uses discrete aluminium side channels into which the bottom bar of the roller is securely fixed. This allows the blind to raise and lower normally but keep in place when there is air movement.

The blinds at both sites were installed with flame retardant fabrics suitable for this type of high use environment. Operation was via side chain which was fitted to a tension device to prevent movement and comply with the child safety requirements of BS EN 13120.
